MEXICO - GETTING HERE & THERE
The Mayan Riviera is one of the best-linked destinations in the country. Highway 307 connects the city of Cancun in the north to the state capital of Quintana Roo, Chetumal, in the south. To arrive at many Quintana Roo destinations by boat, Playa del Carmen, Punto Venados and Puerto Morelos have docks where cruise liners offer services to various Caribbean cities. They also have ferry services to Cozumel Island. As for air travel, the best place to arrive in the Mayan Riviera is the Cancun International Airport, which is about 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen.
BY AIR –
The Cancun International Airport is located off the Cancun-Tulum Highway, 3 mi (5 km) from the hotel zone and 5 mi (8 km) from the downtown area. It has taxi and bus services to the hotel zone in Cancun and Playa del Carmen
The following carriers offer international service to Cancún from various hub airports in the USA: American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Aeromexico, Mexicana, Spirit Airlines and many charters to name but a few. Most major carriers have 3 or 4 flights a day. |

BY SEA -
Cozumel has an important dock that receives all kinds of boats ranging from small yachts to international cruise liners. It is also the departure point for ferries going to Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, which are 40-minute and one-hour boat rides, respectively. Upon arrival, you can head north along Highway 307 to Cancun, or south in the direction of Chetumal, the state capital of Quintana Roo.
FERRY TO & FROM COZUMEL
With their new fast boats, regular schedules and convenient service you can be in Cozumel in 25 minutes departing from Playa del Carmen starting as early as 6:00 AM to as late as 11:00 PM. You may buy your tickets right before you depart, or they can be bought in advance. Space on the boats is enough for the demand of passengers so you do not have to worry about availability. The approximate cost for a round trip Playa del Carmen-Cozumel-Playa del Carmen is about 16 USD per person. During the ride you will be able to watch TV ads of Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, which contain useful information on both places, and in most boats you can also sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
GETTING AROUND
Keep in mind that your ASK ME vacation package already has roundtrip airport transfers included, so there should be no need for the following information. Just look for our ground operator, Lomas Travel, upon exiting the airport arrivals terminal. They’re the ones with the turquoise shirts!
Taxis - Taxi fares are quite expensive, are not metered and operate on a zone basis.
Local Buses - Local buses run a 24 hour service up and down the main Avenida Kukulcan in Cancun. They are regular, clean and very efficient - they are also very inexpensive. You can also ride executive style minibuses and vans to nearby places like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Chichén Itzá; these work out considerably less than hiring a taxi to these areas.
