Whether you want a legal or a religious ceremony, getting married in Belize is easy. In fact we welcome the opportunity to meet your needs on this very special occasion. Marriage ceremonies in Belize are internationally valid. To obtain a special license to get married in Belize:
- Applications for Special Licenses must be signed by both applicants, verified by affidavit, and accompanied by the applicants’ identity documents (i.e. certified copies of applicants’ birth certificate, passport, etc.) and can be submitted from applicants’ place of residence through a wedding planner in Belize at anytime in anticipation of their arrival into Belize.
Completed forms along with the items in the following list must be presented to General Registry or Solicitor General.
- Identification Documents – All documents required must be original documents but certified copies of the original documents are acceptable.
- Citizenship – No residency requirement.
- Blood test – No blood test or parental consent is needed if over age 18.
- Marital status – Original or certified copy of divorce or death certificates must be presented if divorced or widowed.
- Witnesses – Two witnesses, can include hotel staff but must be at least 18 years
- Marriage license fee (US $250)
- Proof that both parties are above age 18 years.
The ceremony may be performed by a senior justice of the peace at any place within Belize between the hours of 5:00 am and 9:00 pm inclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and public and bank holidays. For all pre-travel arrangements, just “ask me...”
Virgin Island Weddings: SCRUB ISLAND
Weddings on Scrub Island, British Virgin Islands are all about a marriage made in heaven. Think about a wedding that will be talked about by your friends and family for years to come... A marriage license is easy to obtain in the British Virgin Islands and the certificate is valid internationally. Requirements of the Registrar-General's Office:
- An island residency requirement of 3 business days
- Your passports as proof of identity and date of arrival in the BVI.
- Proof of marital status (certified original copies of Degree Absolute for divorced spouses or Death Certificate of deceased spouses).
- Two witnesses: (1) for signing the license application and (1) to be present at the marriage ceremony. (Witnesses need not be the same for both exercises; persons in the BVI may be selected as witnesses.
- $110.00 (in BVI postage stamps) for a special license for those residing in the BVI for three days or $50.00 (may be included in your hotel’s wedding package)
In addition, the Registrar-General will require the following information:
- The names of the two parties as they appear on your travel documents
- The ages of both parties
- The occupations of both parties
- Marital Status
- The names of the two witnesses to the ceremony
- Fees payable to the Registrar-General's Office are $35.00 if the wedding ceremony is to be performed in a church, and $100.00 is it is performed elsewhere (Fees may be included in your hotel’s wedding package)

Please note that couples getting married at
Palm Island must go to the ministry in St. Vincent in person to arrange for the marriage license. The resort will arrange the inter-island flights, but the cost of approximately $100 per person is not included.
